Hosting and server log files
This website is purely static and is hosted by Vercel Inc., 340 S Lemon Ave #4133, Walnut, CA 91789, USA (“Vercel”). When you visit the website, technically necessary data sent by your browser is processed automatically: the IP address, the date and time of access, the user agent (browser and operating system) and the referrer URL.
The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR. Our legitimate interest lies in the secure and stable operation of the website. Log data is deleted as soon as it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was collected. Details of the processing by the hosting provider can be found in Vercel’s privacy notice. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Vercel in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR. As Vercel is based in the USA, personal data may be transferred to the USA; such transfers are based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses under Art. 46(2)(c) GDPR.

External links
This website contains links to external websites (for example GitHub or byte.de). When you click such a link, you leave this website, and the privacy policy of the respective provider applies. We have no influence on how they process data.
The Byte Ports app
Byte Ports reads the processes of the logged-in user and local TCP listeners. Settings, project paths and launch commands are stored locally. The app does not read chat contents. There are no accounts and no telemetry.
Commands you launch in the app run with your shell’s environment variables, as in Terminal, for example PATH and variables from your .zshrc. To do this, the app reads these variables on your Mac and passes them to the launched command. They may contain credentials. The app does not store, log or transmit them.
Only local HTTP servers reachable on 127.0.0.1 or ::1 can be shared publicly. Before a share starts, the app sends exactly one HEAD request to the server over the loopback interface to check that it speaks HTTP. This check does not leave your Mac. The app then starts a Cloudflare Quick Tunnel with the bundled cloudflared program. Cloudflare processes the connection data and content required for the tunnel and the web traffic it relays. Anyone with the link can access the shared server without a password. The link is copied to the clipboard, and while the share is active, the menu bar shows a globe. Sharing ends when you stop it or quit the app. For more information, see Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
The automatic update check is off by default. Only if you turn on “Check for updates weekly” does the app ask the GitHub API (api.github.com) for the latest release once a week. The app sends the same request when you choose “Check Now”. Technically necessary connection data such as your IP address is transmitted in the process, but no device or user identifiers. The app stores the time and result of the last check locally. You start the download and installation yourself. App downloads and the public source code are also provided by GitHub. The GitHub General Privacy Statement applies.
You can delete the locally stored settings by removing the “Byte Ports” folder under “Library/Application Support” in your home folder. Quit the app first. Services you start and their own data are subject to their respective settings.
